With an authentication filter, this checks whether a user has access permissions to view or modify the application. If ACLs are enabled, a code path in HttpSecurityFilter can allow someone to perform impersonation by providing an arbitrary user name. A malicious user might then be able to reach a permission check function that will ultimately build a Unix shell command based on their input, and execute it. This will result in arbitrary shell command execution as the user Spark is currently running as. This issue was disclosed earlier as CVE-2022-33891, but incorrectly claimed version 3.1.3 (which has since gone EOL) would not be affected.\n\nNOTE: This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.\n\nUsers are recommended to upgrade to a supported version of Apache Spark, such as version 3.4.0.","provenance":"source","from":"CVE.org"},"summary":{"text":"The flaw is a command injection vulnerability in the Spark UI of Apache Spark, reached through its access control checks when spark.acls.enable is set, where an impersonation path in HttpSecurityFilter lets user-supplied input flow into a Unix shell command. An attacker who can reach the Spark UI over the network and hold low-privileged credentials could exploit this without user interaction to run arbitrary shell commands as the user Spark runs as, provided ACLs are enabled and an authentication filter is in place.","provenance":"ai","model":"claude-haiku-5-5","generatedAt":"2026-10-29T07:15:17Z"},"cvss":{"score":8.8,"severity":"HIGH","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","provenance":"source","from":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"},"epss":{"score":0.75955,"percentile":0.99527,"date":"2026-10-29","provenance":"source"},"kev":null,"vulncheckKev":null,"exploited":false,"otx":{"pulseCount":0,"pulses":[],"provenance":"machine"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-77","name":"Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command"}],"references":[{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2022-33891","tags":["related"]},{"url":"https://spark.apache.org/security.html","tags":["vendor-advisory"]},{"url":"https://lists.apache.org/thread/poxgnxhhnzz735kr1wos366l5vdbb0nv","tags":["vendor-advisory"]},{"url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2023/05/02/1","tags":[]}],"techniques":[],"reports":[],"affected":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.spark:spark-parent_2.12","vulnerableRanges":[">=3.1.1, <3.2.2"],"patched":["3.2.2"],"from":["GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3"],"provenance":"source"},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","package":"pyspark","vulnerableRanges":[">=3.1.1, <3.2.2","<3.2.2"],"patched":["3.2.2"],"from":["GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3","PYSEC-2023-72"],"provenance":"source"}],"advisories":[{"id":"GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3","severity":"HIGH","ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.spark:spark-parent_2.12","vulnerableRanges":[">=3.1.1, <3.2.2"],"patched":["3.2.2"],"provenance":"source","from":"GHSA"},{"id":"GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3","severity":"HIGH","ecosystem":"PyPI","package":"pyspark","vulnerableRanges":[">=3.1.1, <3.2.2"],"patched":["3.2.2"],"provenance":"source","from":"GHSA"}],"euvd":{"id":"EUVD-2023-0220","url":"https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/EUVD-2023-0220","exploited":false,"exploitedSince":null,"provenance":"source"},"exploits":[],"exploitSources":null,"exploitRefs":[],"flow":[],"timeline":[{"date":"2023-05-02","kind":"published","label":"Published (CVE.org)","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2023-32007","provenance":"source"}],"speed":{"daysToPublicExploit":null,"firstExploitFrom":null,"daysToKev":null},"priority":{"score":26.1,"factors":[{"name":"In a KEV catalog","points":0.0,"detail":"not listed"},{"name":"Recent KEV listing","points":0.0,"detail":"not listed"},{"name":"Known ransomware use","points":0.0,"detail":"not known"},{"name":"EPSS percentile","points":19.91,"detail":"percentile 0.9953"},{"name":"Named in threat reports","points":0.0,"detail":"0 reports"},{"name":"Public exploit code","points":0.0,"detail":"none found"},{"name":"Mentioned in OTX pulses","points":0.0,"detail":"0 pulses"},{"name":"CVSS severity","points":6.16,"detail":"base score 8.8"},{"name":"End-of-life product","points":0.0,"detail":"supported or unknown"}]},"lineage":{"familyId":"fam-apache-spark-cve-2022-33891","parents":[{"from":"CVE-2022-33891","to":"CVE-2023-32007","relation":"related","confidence":"high","kind":"lineage","evidence":[{"kind":"osv-related","provenance":"source","id":"GHSA-59hw-j9g6-mfg3","via":"reference","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2022-33891"},{"kind":"osv-related","provenance":"source","id":"PYSEC-2023-72","via":"reference","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2022-33891"}]}]}}
