This may result in an exception that terminates the\napplication program.\n\nNote that basic certificate chain validation (signatures, dates, ...) is not\naffected, the denial of service can occur only when the application also\nspecifies an expected DNS name, Email address or IP address.\n\nTLS servers rarely solicit client certificates, and even when they do, they\ngenerally don't perform a name check against a reference identifier (expected\nidentity), but rather extract the presented identity after checking the\ncertificate chain.  So TLS servers are generally not affected and the severity\nof the issue is Moderate.\n\nThe FIPS modules in 3.3, 3.2, 3.1 and 3.0 are not affected by this issue.","provenance":"source","from":"CVE.org"},"summary":{"text":"The flaw is in OpenSSL's X.509 certificate name checking code, where comparing an expected identity against an otherName subject alternative name can read an invalid memory address and crash the application process. An attacker who can present a crafted certificate to an application that performs name checks against an expected DNS name, email address or IP address can cause a denial of service, and basic chain validation alone is not affected.","provenance":"ai","model":"claude-haiku-5-5","generatedAt":"2026-10-29T07:15:10Z"},"cvss":{"score":7.5,"severity":"HIGH","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","provenance":"source","from":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"},"epss":{"score":0.66582,"percentile":0.99284,"date":"2026-10-29","provenance":"source"},"kev":null,"vulncheckKev":null,"exploited":false,"otx":{"pulseCount":2,"pulses":[{"name":"ACTUALIZACION | ||Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - April 2025","url":"https://otx.alienvault.com/pulse/6807e1c45dd52410facbed8f","created":"2025-04-22"},{"name":"ACTUALIZACION | Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management 2.11.4 security enhancements and bug fixes","url":"https://otx.alienvault.com/pulse/6769dd2ac0f748c372512eef","created":"2024-12-23"}],"provenance":"machine"},"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-843","name":"Access of Resource Using Incompatible Type"}],"references":[{"url":"https://openssl-library.org/news/secadv/20240903.txt","tags":["vendor-advisory"]},{"url":"https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/7dfcee2cd2a63b2c64b9b4b0850be64cb695b0a0","tags":["patch"]},{"url":"https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/05f360d9e849a1b277db628f1f13083a7f8dd04f","tags":["patch"]},{"url":"https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/621f3729831b05ee828a3203eddb621d014ff2b2","tags":["patch"]},{"url":"https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/06d1dc3fa96a2ba5a3e22735a033012aadc9f0d6","tags":["patch"]},{"url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/09/03/4","tags":[]},{"url":"https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-security/2024-September/000303.html","tags":[]},{"url":"https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20240912-0001/","tags":[]},{"url":"https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/html/ssa-769027.html","tags":[]},{"url":"https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/html/ssa-082556.html","tags":[]},{"url":"https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/html/ssa-613116.html","tags":[]}],"techniques":[],"reports":[],"affected":[],"advisories":[],"euvd":{"id":"EUVD-2024-47266","url":"https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/EUVD-2024-47266","exploited":false,"exploitedSince":null,"provenance":"source"},"exploits":[],"exploitSources":null,"exploitRefs":[],"flow":[],"timeline":[{"date":"2024-09-03","kind":"published","label":"Published (CVE.org)","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2024-6119","provenance":"source"}],"speed":{"daysToPublicExploit":null,"firstExploitFrom":null,"daysToKev":null},"priority":{"score":26.2,"factors":[{"name":"In a KEV catalog","points":0.0,"detail":"not listed"},{"name":"Recent KEV listing","points":0.0,"detail":"not listed"},{"name":"Known ransomware use","points":0.0,"detail":"not known"},{"name":"EPSS percentile","points":19.86,"detail":"percentile 0.9928"},{"name":"Named in threat reports","points":0.0,"detail":"0 reports"},{"name":"Public exploit code","points":0.0,"detail":"none found"},{"name":"Mentioned in OTX pulses","points":1.08,"detail":"2 pulses"},{"name":"CVSS severity","points":5.25,"detail":"base score 7.5"},{"name":"End-of-life product","points":0.0,"detail":"supported or unknown"}]}}
