{"id":"CVE-2026-53709","published":"2026-10-13T15:17:44Z","modified":"2026-10-16T22:17:23Z","title":"MCP Context Forge is an MCP gateway and administrative platform","vendor":"IBM","product":"mcp-context-forge","tier":"core","eol":null,"description":{"text":"MCP Context Forge is an MCP gateway and administrative platform. Prior to 1.0.2, mcpgateway/config.py and .env.example ship a known JWT_SECRET_KEY, while verify_jwt_token() accepts HS256 tokens signed with that key and get_current_user() creates a platform administrator when the token subject matches PLATFORM_ADMIN_EMAIL and REQUIRE_USER_IN_DB is false. A remote unauthenticated attacker can therefore mint accepted administrator tokens without a database account. While the vulnerable signing key remains configured and the platform-admin bootstrap remains enabled, forged access survives password rotation, account deletion, and session revocation, allowing administrative disclosure, modification, and service disruption. This issue is fixed in version 1.0.2.","provenance":"source","from":"NVD"},"summary":null,"cvss":{"score":9.8,"severity":"CRITICAL","version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","provenance":"source","from":"NVD"},"epss":{"score":0.00603,"percentile":0.48881,"date":"2026-10-31","provenance":"source"},"kev":null,"vulncheckKev":null,"exploited":false,"otx":null,"cwes":[{"id":"CWE-287","name":"Improper Authentication"},{"id":"CWE-321","name":"Use of Hard-coded Cryptographic Key"},{"id":"CWE-798","name":"Use of Hard-coded Credentials"},{"id":"CWE-1188","name":"Initialization of a Resource with an Insecure Default"}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/IBM/mcp-context-forge/commit/2af690f894b6e35f5f21190fdab1505f023a5272","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/IBM/mcp-context-forge/releases/tag/v1.0.2","tags":[]},{"url":"https://github.com/IBM/mcp-context-forge/security/advisories/GHSA-m8rv-5m6m-32ff","tags":[]}],"techniques":[],"reports":[],"affected":[],"advisories":[],"euvd":{"id":"EUVD-2026-98769","url":"https://euvd.enisa.europa.eu/vulnerability/EUVD-2026-98769","exploited":false,"exploitedSince":null,"provenance":"source"},"exploits":[],"exploitSources":null,"exploitRefs":[],"flow":[],"timeline":[{"date":"2026-10-13","kind":"published","label":"Published (NVD)","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-53709","provenance":"source"}],"speed":{"daysToPublicExploit":null,"firstExploitFrom":null,"daysToKev":null},"priority":{"score":16.6,"factors":[{"name":"In a KEV catalog","points":0.0,"detail":"not listed"},{"name":"Recent KEV listing","points":0.0,"detail":"not listed"},{"name":"Known ransomware use","points":0.0,"detail":"not known"},{"name":"EPSS percentile","points":9.78,"detail":"percentile 0.4888"},{"name":"Named in threat reports","points":0.0,"detail":"0 reports"},{"name":"Public exploit code","points":0.0,"detail":"none found"},{"name":"Mentioned in OTX pulses","points":0.0,"detail":"0 pulses"},{"name":"CVSS severity","points":6.86,"detail":"base score 9.8"},{"name":"End-of-life product","points":0.0,"detail":"supported or unknown"}]}}
