Cisco IOS Denial-of-Service Vulnerability

Cisco · IOS

Summary

The flaw is an uncontrolled resource consumption issue in the Telnet and reverse Telnet handling of Cisco IOS 12.2(15) and earlier, which the affected devices expose through their TCP services. A remote attacker can send a crafted TCP connection to the Telnet or reverse Telnet port, without authentication or user interaction, to exhaust VTY resources and cause refused VTY connections, though the attack is rated as having high complexity.

Official description · NVD

Cisco IOS 12.2(15) and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (refused VTY (virtual terminal) connections), via a crafted TCP connection to the Telnet or reverse Telnet port.
