Sudo · Sudo
The Sudo utility (product Sudo, vendor Sudo) contains an off-by-one error in versions before 1.9.5p2 that can cause a heap-based buffer overflow in its handling of the sudoedit -s command-line option. An attacker with a local, low-privileged account can exploit it by supplying an argument ending in a single backslash character to escalate privileges to root, without requiring any user interaction.
Sudo before 1.9.5p2 contains an off-by-one error that can result in a heap-based buffer overflow, which allows privilege escalation to root via "sudoedit -s" and a command-line argument that ends with a single backslash character.
First seen exploited 14 months after disclosure. Public exploit code (PoC-in-GitHub) was available the same day.
CISA KEV listing is when exploitation was confirmed, not necessarily the first attack.
