Apple iOS and iPadOS Out-of-Bounds Write Vulnerability

Apple · iOS and iPadOS

Summary

Apple iOS and iPadOS contain an out-of-bounds write flaw, an input validation weakness in the kernel-level code that was addressed with improved bounds checking. A local attacker can exploit it by running a malicious application on the device, which requires local access and user interaction, and this can lead to arbitrary code execution with kernel privileges.

Official description · NVD

An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking. This issue is fixed in iOS 15.7.1 and iPadOS 15.7.1, iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16. An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited..
