Fortra GoAnywhere MFT Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

Fortra · GoAnywhere MFT

Summary

Fortra GoAnywhere MFT contains a command injection flaw in its License Response Servlet, caused by deserialization of an attacker-controlled object. The flaw is in the GoAnywhere MFT product itself, within the License Response Servlet component. An attacker with network access to the affected servlet can execute commands on the system without authenticating, and the attack requires no user interaction, with exploitation needing only that the attacker can reach the servlet and send crafted input.

Official description · NVD

Fortra (formerly, HelpSystems) GoAnywhere MFT suffers from a pre-authentication command injection vulnerability in the License Response Servlet due to deserializing an arbitrary attacker-controlled object. This issue was patched in version 7.1.2.

Initial AccessTA0001

Exploit Public-Facing Application T1190 Medium
MITRE CTID mapping of the KEV entry · how it is exploited

This vulnerability is exploited through a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) flaw in GoAnywhere's license installation process. Attackers initiate this vulnerability by leveraging the absence of CSRF protection, allowing them to execute remote code without authentication. This enables them to compromise targeted systems, facilitating ransomware attacks and unauthorized access. This vulnerability has been actively exploited, leading to ransomware attacks by the Clop group.
