Service Location Protocol (SLP) Denial-of-Service Vulnerability

IETF · Service Location Protocol (SLP)

Summary

The Service Location Protocol (SLP, RFC 2608) service registration functionality contains a flaw that lets remote parties register arbitrary services. An unauthenticated remote attacker can abuse this with spoofed UDP traffic to mount a denial-of-service attack with significant amplification, requiring no authentication, no user interaction, and only network reachability to the SLP service.

Official description · NVD

The Service Location Protocol (SLP, RFC 2608) allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to register arbitrary services. This could allow the attacker to use spoofed UDP traffic to conduct a denial-of-service attack with a significant amplification factor.
