GNU C Library Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
GNU · GNU C Library
A buffer overflow in the dynamic loader ld.so of the GNU C Library (GLIBC) is triggered while it parses the GLIBC_TUNABLES environment variable. An attacker with local access and low privileges can craft a malicious GLIBC_TUNABLES value to run code with elevated privileges when a SUID binary is launched, and no user interaction is required.
A buffer overflow was discovered in the GNU C Library's dynamic loader ld.so while processing the GLIBC_TUNABLES environment variable. This issue could allow a local attacker to use maliciously crafted GLIBC_TUNABLES environment variables when launching binaries with SUID permission to execute code with elevated privileges.
