RARLAB WinRAR Path Traversal Vulnerability
RARLAB · WinRAR
A path traversal flaw in the Windows version of RARLAB's WinRAR archive utility lets specially crafted archive files write or place content outside the intended extraction directory. An attacker needs to get a malicious archive to a user who opens or extracts it with WinRAR, which requires user interaction and no prior authentication or network access to the target.
A path traversal vulnerability affecting the Windows version of WinRAR allows the attackers to execute arbitrary code by crafting malicious archive files. This vulnerability was exploited in the wild and was discovered by Anton Cherepanov, Peter Košinár, and Peter Strýček from ESET.
