PHP Memory Corruption Vulnerability
PHP Group · PHP
A memory corruption flaw in PHP's request handling lets out-of-memory conditions, which are handled via longjmp(), leave request memory uninitialized before a later allocation, and the cleanup routine then reads or branches on that memory. An unauthenticated remote attacker with network access can trigger this without user interaction by using one of several out-of-memory strategies that consistently reproduce the condition, potentially achieving remote code execution.
PHP uses longjmp() for out-of-memory (OOM) errors to exit the current context and abort handling of the request. Some contexts may not properly account for this scenario and leave request memory in an uninitialized state before performing an allocation. The subsequent request cleanup procedure may read or branch on this memory. Multiple OOM strategies can consistently trigger this condition and lead to remote code execution (RCE).
